The Cursor
The cursor indicates where the next character you type will appear on the screen. The
cursor style is block or an underline, selectable in Setup Mode.
Status Line Messages
The terminal's status messages, which are displayed on the bottom lme of the screen,
are summarized in Table 3-1.
Specific areas of the status line are reserved for the messages. The figure below tJ-
lustrates all the possible status messages and the positions where they will appear.

Description
The keyboard is in a locked state. Refer to Chapter 4 Troubleshoot-
ing If the condition persIsts.
The terminal is in Caps Lock or ShIft Lock Mode. AlphabetIc keys
will display only uppercase characters. Additionally in Shift Lock
Mode, numeric/symbol keys will display only the upper symbols on
theIr keycaps. Press the [
Lock [
key to clear.
Indicates you have started a compose character sequence See the
"Compose Character" section of this chapter.
The termInal IS In Insert Character Mode. Inserts characters you
type Any characters to the right of the cursor are moved right Any
