TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Under certain conditions, performance of the unit may be adversely affected by factors other than defects. If problems occur,
please review the following list and take remedial action as needed. If you cannot solve the problem after checking the
entire list, please contact your local Olympus representative for assistance.
Problem
1. Optical System
a) Bulb does not light.
b) Bulb operates, but field of view re-
mains dark.
c) Field of view is obscured or not
evenly illuminated.
d) Dirt or dust is visible in the field of
view.
e) Visibility is poor.
· Image is not poor.
· Contrast is poor.
· Details are indistinct.
· Image glares.

Cause
Bulb is burned out.
Power cord is unplugged.
Aperture and field iris diaphragms are not
opened wide enough.
Revolving nosepiece is not correctly en-
gaged.
Condenser top lens is not set correctly.
Condenser is not properly centered.
Turret is set in an intermediate position.
Field iris diaphragm is stopped down too
far.
Bulb is not mounted correctly.
Dirt/dust on the eyepieces.
Dirt or dust on condenser top lens, turret
upper surface covering glass
Dirt/dust on the specimen.
A non-UIS2/UIS objective is used.
Aperture iris diaphragm is stopped down
too far.
Correction collar on correction collar
equipped objective is not properly ad-
justed.
Front lens of objective is dirty.
Immersion oil is not being used with an
oil immersion objective.
Immersion oil contains bubbles.
Recommended immersion oil is not
used.
Dirt/dust on specimen.
Dirt/dust on condenser top lens, turret or
upper surface covering glass.
Inappropriate object side or cover glass
thickness.
Remedy
Replace bulb.
Plug power cord into the power outlet.
Adjust them to proper sizes.
Make sure that the revolving nosepiece
clicks properly into place.
Swing out the top lens.
Center the condenser.
Set turret to a click position.
Open the field iris diaphragm until it
circumscribes the field.
Push the pins of halogen bulb all the
way until the stop position.
Clean thoroughly.
Use only UIS2/UIS series objectives
with this microscope.
Open aperture iris diaphragm.
While focusing, turn the correction
collar to find the best position.
Clean objective.
Use immersion oil.
Remove the bubbles.
Use the provided immersion oil.
Clean it.
Replace with glass of recommended
thickness.
