4.9 Route Setup

AIP-W512 supports static and dynamic routing protocol. routing table is often used in
multi-segment network; for a single network segment or daily Internet access, it is not necessary
to change routing parameters in this page.
Note: Routing features in AIP-W512 are dynamic routing (RIPv1, and RIPv2) and static
routing.
Dynamic Route
If dynamic routing is enabled, router will cache and learn network routes via routing protocols,
allowing automation of routing info exchanges. The router utilizes the RIP (Routing Information
Protocol) protocol, to determine the network traffic route based on the fewest number of hops
between the source and the destination. This is useful when there are physical changes in the
network layout (in this scenario, all the routers in this network should have RIP support).
Static Route
A static route is a pre-determined pathway that network information must travel to reach a specific
host or network. (For example: Destination Network IP: 192.168.12.1, Subnet Mask:
255.255.255.0, Gateway IP: 192.168.11.1)
