Engine Maintenance

Engine Safety

Shut off the engine before checking the oil or adding oil to
the crankcase.

Servicing the Air Cleaner

Check the whole intake system for leaks, damage, or loose
hose clamps. Do not use a damaged air filter.
Service the air-cleaner filter only when the service indicator
requires it. Changing the air filter before it is necessary only
increases the chance of dirt entering the engine when the
filter is removed.
Important: Make sure that the cover is seated correctly,
seals with the air-cleaner body, and the rubber outlet
valve is in a downward position—between the 5 o'clock
and 7 o'clock positions when viewed from the end.
