This Procedure includes the following:

Repairing/Replacing Pneumatic Caster Tire/Tube

Replacing Casters

Installing/Replacing Caster Fork Assemblies

WARNING
After adjustments and before use make sure
all attaching hardware is securely tightened.
REPAIRING/REPLACING PNEUMATIC
CASTER TIRE/TUBE
WARNING
Replacement of a pneumatic tire or tube MUST
be performed by an authorized Invacare dealer
or qualified technician.
REPLACING CASTERS (FIGURE 1)
1. Remove the bolt and locknut that secure the
existing caster and axle spacers to the fork.
2. Remove the existing caster and axle spacers
from the fork.
3. Install the new caster and axle spacers onto the
fork and securely tighten.
4. Repeat the above procedures for the opposite
caster if necessary.
NOTE: If replacing casters with a different size than
what was originally on the wheelchair to obtain a
different seat-to-floor height, the fork assemblies
must be changed as well. Refer to INSTALLING/
REPLACING CASTER FORK ASSEMBLIES in this
section of the manual.

INSTALLING/REPLACING CASTER FORK
ASSEMBLIES (FIGURE 2)
NOTE: When changing the seat-to-floor heights
of the wheelchair, it may be necessary to replace
the existing fork assembly with a different size fork
assembly. Refer to SEAT-TO-FLOOR HEIGHT in
PROCEDURE 8 of this manual.
1. Remove the existing caster from the wheelchair.
Refer to REPLACING CASTERS in this sec-
tion of the manual.
2. Remove the black dust cover.
3. Remove locknut and large plastic washer.
4. Drop the fork assembly out of the caster
headtube.
5. Slide in the new caster fork assembly.
6. Reassemble by reversing STEPS 1-5.
7. Repeat STEPS 1-6 for the opposite caster, if
necessary.
8. To properly tighten caster journal system and
guard against flutter, perform the following check:
a. Tip back of wheelchair to floor.
b. Pivot both forks and casters to top of their arc
c. Let casters drop to bottom of arc (wheels
d. Adjust locknuts according to freedom of caster
9. Test wheelchair for maneuverability.
10. Readjust locknuts if necessary and repeat STEPS
8-9 until correct.
