REAR WHEELS/FRONT CASTERS
This Procedure Includes the Following:

Removing/Installing Rear Wheels

Adjusting the Quick-Release Axle
Removing/Installing Non-Projection Handrims
Replacing/Repairing Rear Wheel Tire/Tube
Replacing/Repairing Front Caster Tire/Tube
Front Caster Mounting/Seat-to-Floor Height
WARNING
After ANY adjustments, repair or service
and BEFORE use, make sure all attaching
hardware is tightened securely - otherwise
injury or damage may occur.
REMOVING/INSTALLING REAR
WHEELS
WARNING
If changing the size of the rear wheel or the
SEAT-TO-FLOOR HEIGHT, this procedure must
be performed by a qualified technician.
Permanent Axles (FIGURE 1)
REMOVING.
1. Do one (1) of the following:
A. Patriot - Remove the dust cap, permanent axle,
washer, spacer (if applicable) and locknut that se-
cure rear wheel to the axle bracket.
B. Patriot SL - Remove the dust cap, permanent
axle, washer and locknut that secure rear wheel
to the wheelchair frame.
NOTE: If replacing the same size rear wheel,
note the mounting position on the wheelchair
frame for proper reinstallation of the NEW/
EXISTING rear
2. Remove EXISTING rear wheel from the wheelchair.
3. Install NEW/EXISTING rear wheel onto wheelchair.
Refer to INSTALLING PERMANENT AXLES in this
procedure of the manual.
INSTALLING.
1. Do one (1) of the following:
A. Patriot - Install permanent axle through washer,
NEW/EXISTING rear wheel, spacer (if applicable)
and axle bracket.
B. Patriot SL - Install permanent axle through
washer, NEW/EXISTING rear wheel and into the
axle mounting holes.

2. Securely tighten with the EXISTING locknut. Torque
to 20-40 ft./lbs.
3. Reinstall the dust cap onto the permanent axle.
4. If necessary, repeat STEPS 1-3 for opposite rear
wheel.

Quick Release Axles (FIGURE 2)
REMOVING.
1. Hold the center of the rear wheel and push in the tip of
the quick release axle.
2. Do one (1) of the following:
A. Patriot - Pull the quick release axle and rear wheel
out of the axle bracket on the wheelchair frame.
B. Patriot SL - Pull the quick release axle and rear
wheel out of the axle mounting hole in the wheel-
chair frame.
NOTE: If replacing the same size rear wheel,
note the mounting position on the wheelchair
frame for proper reinstallation of the NEW/
EXISTING rear wheel.
3. Push in the tip of the quick release axle again and pull
the quick release axle out of the EXISTING rear wheel.
