Good driving practice
If it is difficult to shift into reverse, put
D
the transmission in neutral, release the
clutch pedal momentarily, and then try
again.
When towing a trailer, in order to main-
D
tain engine braking efficiency, do not
use sixth gear.
CAUTION
Be careful when downshifting on a
slippery
surface.
Abrupt
shifting
could cause the vehicle to skid or
spin.
NOTICE
z Do not use any gears other than
first gear when starting off and
moving forward. Doing so may dam-
age the clutch.
z Make sure the vehicle is completely
stopped before shifting into reverse.

Four−wheel drive system—
(a) Front drive control
Use the "2WD/4HI" and "4LO" switches
to select the following transfer modes.
1. "2WD" (high speed position, two−
wheel drive): "2WD/4HI" and "4LO"
switches left out
Use this for normal driving on dry,
hard−surfaced
roads.
This
gives greater economy, the quietest
ride and least wear.
2. "4HI"
(high speed position,
wheel drive): "2WD/4HI" switch pushed
in
The "4HI"
indicator light
comes on
when the "4HI" mode is selected.
Use this for normal driving on wet, icy
or snow−covered roads. This position
provides
greater
traction
than
wheel drive.
In this mode, the vehicle stability con-
trol system is off. (See "Vehicle stabil-
ity control system" in this Section.)
