13 SYSTEM FUNCTIONS
13.1 Firmware Upgrade
The firmware of the MFC-101 is field-updateable using a special "boot" (power-on) mode. Firmware updates will
be released through our website at http://www.fractalaudio.com.
IMPORTANT: It is recommended that your MIDI utility be configured to insert a delay of at least 90ms between messages.
To upgrade the firmware:
1. Disconnect the MIDI cable from the MFC-101 MIDI OUT port and connect the MIDI OUT port of your
computer MIDI interface to the MIDI IN port of the MFC-101.
2. Power up the MFC-101 while holding down the #1 footswitch to enter FW Update mode:
3. Begin to transmit the firmware file using your MIDI utility such as MIDI-OX or Snoize Sysex Librarian. As the
update progresses the display will reflect the percentage complete:
4. When the update is complete the display will show a confirmation:
5. At this point MFC-101 must be power-cycled to begin using the new firmware.
13.2 Factory Default Settings Reset
WARNING: Restoring Factory Settings is DESTRUCTIVE and cannot be undone!
It is strongly recommended that you BACK UP important user data prior to using this function.
1. To restore the MFC-101 to Factory Defaults, hold down Footswitch #11 while powering up. The display will
show the reset prompt while the ENTER LED flashes red:
2. Press ENTER to completely erase all user memory and restore factory settings. The display will show
"Restoring..." and the ENTER footswitch LED will turn OFF. Once the restore is complete the MFC-101
will boot normally with factory-fresh settings.
