WARNING
When the emergency starter rope is used
for starting engine;
Start in gear protection does not work.
Be sure to shift is at neutral position.
Otherwise the engine will move the boat
immediately and cause personal injury.
Be careful that your clothes or other
items do not get caught in the rotating
engine parts.
To prevent accident and injury by rotat-
ing parts, do not re-attach the recoil

started.
Do not pull starter rope if any bystander
is behind. The action can injure the
bystander.
Attach engine stop switch lanyard to
clothing or any part of body like arm
before starting engine.
Be careful not to remove engine stop
switch lanyard from engine accidentally
while boat is running. Sudden stop of
engine can cause loss of steering con-
trol. It can also cause loss of boat speed,
possibly leading the crew(s) and or
objects on the boat to be thrown for-
ward due to inertial force.
Do not touch electrical components
such as ignition coils, spark plug cables
or spark plug caps when starting engine
or while engine is in operation. Touching
any of these parts can cause electrical
shock.

2. Warming up the engine
Before driving the boat, let the engine run
at low speed to let it warm and allow the
oil to circulate through the engine. If the
ENOF00663-0
engine is not warmed up beforehand, the
engine life will shorten greatly.
This outboard motor automatically controls
warm-up operation, namely, it runs at a
speed slightly higher than idling just after it
is started, and it reverts to the normal run-
ning at a preset speed after warm-up is
complete.
During the warm-up operation, confirm
that cooling water is discharged from the
check port and idle port.
ENOW00610-0
If cooling water is not discharged and
engine operation is continued, the engine
will overheat and damage occur.
