Memory Card Adapter
Troubles
• The memory cards used must comply with the JEIDA-4 standard.
PCMCIA-cards may not work properly.
• In case of non Dos-formatted memory cards, check that the write
protect switch on the memory card is enabled. If so, try another
similar memory card.
• In case of the printer not using a startup (autoexec) file on memory
card, check that there are no other startup files in other parts of the
printers memory, that have higher priority.
The printer uses startup files in the following priority order:
1. Dos-formatted memory cards (SRAM).
2. Printer's internal RAM memory.
3. Non DOS-formatted memory cards (SRAM or OTPROM).
4. Printer's ROM memory, i.e. configuration EPROM's.
• If you have access to a PC equipped with a card reader, list the
memory content of the PC memory card to see if it is correct. In
case of a SRAM card, the information stored may have got lost
due to some malfunction in the card's battery backup or an empty
battery.
• If you can communicate with the printer via a PC, you could see
what files are stored in the memory card and the size of them with
the aid of UBI Fingerprint commands
formatted cards), or
of non DOS-formatted cards, compare with the content of the
printer's ROM memory, when no card is inserted.
• If the memory card and the software appears to be OK, go on and
check the hardware:
• Check that the memory card adapter is connected to the CPU
board via a Bus Driver board, see chapter 13.1. Occasional errors,
such as "1041 Error in FOS structure" and "5 Unrecognized
Token", have been reported for memory card adapters without a
Bus Driver board.
• Check that the Bus Driver board is centred in the memory
expansion connector P-1 on the CPU board.
• Pull out and push back the card a few times to see if it was not poor
contact, e.g. oxidation, between card and adapter.
Note! The printer must be turned off.
• Inspect the memory card for mechanical damages. Examine the
memory card adapter pcb for breakages or bad soldering.
• Check that the GAL package on the memory card adapter is a
20V8 and that it is mounted correctly.
