• Paused titles are not saved to the HDD (hard disc
drive).
• This function is canceled when:
– x STOP (stop) is pressed.
– CH (channel) +/– is pressed.
– DVD (digital video disc) is pressed.
– Z OPEN/CLOSE (open/close) is pressed.
– TITLE LIST (title list) is pressed.
– INPUT SELECT (input select) is pressed.
– the recorder is turned off.
– a timer recording or Synchro-Recording is started.
– DV (digital video)/Digital8 dubbing or regular
dubbing is started.
• It may take a few seconds to resume playback of the
paused program.
• Even if you fast forward the recorded program, there
will always be a time difference of about one minute or
more between the recorded program and the current TV
broadcast.
Playing from the beginning of the
program you are recording

(Chasing Playback)

"Chasing Playback" allows you to view the
recorded part of a program while the recording is
being made. You do not need to wait until the
recording finishes.

1 HDD (hard disc drive).

2 DVD-RW (VR mode) (digital video disc-rewritable,
minus RW (Video Recording mode)).
Press TOOLS (tools) while recording to select
"Chasing Playback," and press ENTER (enter).
Playback starts from the beginning of the program
you are recording.
When you fast forward to the point that you are
recording, Chasing Playback returns to normal
playback.

• For DVD-RWs (VR mode) (digital video disc-
rewritable, minus RW (Video Recording mode)), this
function does not work when recording:
– on a 1x-speed DVD-RW (digital video disc-
rewritable, minus RW).
– in the HQ (high quality) or HSP (high standard play)
recording mode.
• The DVD (digital video disc)'s picture on your TV
screen freezes for a few seconds when you fast
forward/fast reverse or instant replay/advance the
recording.
• Chasing Playback is possible from one minute or more
after recording starts.
• Even if you fast forward the recorded program, there
will always be a time difference of about one minute or
more between the recorded program and the current TV
broadcast.

"Simultaneous Rec and Play" allows you to view
a previously recorded program while recording
programs. Playback continues even if a timer
recording starts. Use this function as follows:
• While recording to the HDD (hard disc drive):
Play another title on the HDD (hard disc drive).
Play a previously recorded program on a DVD
(digital video disc) by pressing DVD (digital
video disc).
• While recording to a DVD (digital video disc):
Play a previously recorded program on the HDD
(hard disc drive) by pressing HDD (hard disc
drive).
• While recording to a DVD-RW (VR mode)
(digital video disc-rewritable, minus RW (Video
Recording mode))* :
