11.8 Target Alarm

The target alarm serves to alert the navigator to targets (ships, landmasses, etc.) entering (or
exiting) a certain area, with audio and visual alarms. The outer and inner boundaries can be set
at any distance. The sector of the zone can be set anywhere between 0 and 360 degrees in any
direction. Two alarms may be set.
11.8.1 Target alarm type
Two alarm types are available: inward and outward. The inward target alarm generates audio
and visual warnings when a target enters the guard zone from any direction. The outward target
alarm is produced when a target leaves the target alarm zone. The type of alarm active is shown
at the bottom right corner on the screen as TA1(2) IN or TA1(2) OUT.
11-18
CAUTION
• The alarm should not be relied upon as
the sole means for detecting possible
collision situations.
• A/C SEA, A/C RAIN and GAIN controls
should be properly adjusted to be sure
the alarm system does not overlook
target echoes.
