Replacing a Processor

1. Observe the safety and ESD precautions at the beginning of this chapter and the additional
cautions given here.
2. Remove the fan guard (see Figure 36).
3. Using the Heat Sink Clip Attach/Removal Tool (see Figure 30), disengage the retention clip from
the processor socket. Slide the Heat Sink Clip Attach/Removal Tool into the small slot on the end
of the retention clip (A). While pressing down on the Heat Sink Clip Attach/Removal Tool, pull
the Heat Sink Clip Attach/Removal Tool inward towards the heat sink (B). The end of the
retention clip will pop off the retention mechanism bracket. Repeat process for the other end of
retention clip.
