6.1 Power and Startup Problems
If the unit will not turn on at all, this is the place to be. If you see an image that doesn't look right, go
to the next section. Watch the LEDs and listen to the fans. This can help diagnose some problems.
Sometimes you have a picture, but you can't see
it.
• If the Curtain is on, the screen will be
black, and it will look like you have no
image.
• If the Black test pattern is on, it will look
like you have no image.
• If the White test pattern is on, the screen
will be illuminated, but you won't see a
picture. (The other test patterns are more
obvious.)
Sometimes it looks like you don't have a
picture, but the problem is not in the display
unit itself.
• If the picture source is disconnected from
the Input, there won't be a picture.
• If the wrong source is selected, there may
not be a picture. Use Source Select to

look at all the input connectors.

Note: When unit first detects that there is no
source, a
SOURCE ABSENT
the screen for about 10 seconds. After 10
seconds this indicator goes off to prevent
burn-in.
• If the picture source is connected but not
sending a picture, there won't be a picture.
Maybe the videotape has stopped. Maybe
the computer is off. If the source is a
laptop, it's screen may have gone dark.
• If the picture source is black, the image
will be black, and this may look like there
is no picture. Videotapes usually have
black leaders and trailers.
