3.2.1.1 Selecting the Format for PC Sources

Only computer pictures that are 852x480 pixels will exactly fit the screen's 16x9 aspect ratio. For
other resolutions, you can leave the side borders or expand the picture in two ways.
Most computer resolutions are in a 4x3 aspect
ratio, but the SN-4215-P screen is 16x9. When
you show a 4x3 picture on a 16x9 screen, the
displayed picture has large bands on both sides
which are filled with a neutral background color.
To handle this mis-match, you have three
choices:
Current—The display will be like you last
left it, after you adjusted zoom and posi-
tion. "Current" is discussed further below.
Normal—The picture will look correct, but
the sides of the screen may be filled with a
background color. (The color is either
black or blue, as selected in the Misc Con-
trol menu.) If the signal source is
852x480, it will exactly fit the screen
without any need for background color.
Wide—Stretch the picture sideways to fill the
screen. This will distort the picture. Cir-
cles will become flattened ellipses.
Zoom—Zoom in on the picture until the
sides of the picture meet the sides of the
screen. This will chop off the top and bot-
tom of the picture.
To choose one of these "Formats,"
1. open the Source Select menu by pressing
.
SOURCE
2. Press the down arrow twice to get to the
3 - 12
third item on the left side of the menu.
The label at the top of the right side will
now say Format.
3. Use the left-right arrows to choose the
Format.
There is another choice. If you are making your
own computer pictures for a presentation, de-
sign them so they are squeezed sideways on a
normal computer monitor. Then they will look
correct in the Wide format.
Current
When you open the Source Select menu, the
Format always starts on Current. Normal, Wide
and Zoom have standard settings for each of the
Modes (640x480, 800x600, and so on).
Suppose you select 640x480 and Wide, and
later you change the values in the Zoom Factor
and Position menus. Now the Format isn't the
standard Wide, it is something else.
Suppose you Save the settings, then turn off
the display. When you turn the display on again
and choose 640x480, the dot in Format will be
on Current, and the display will show whatever
you set in Zoom and Position. If you then
choose Wide, the result will be a standard Wide
display.
