Cure
1.
Coach operator on feather-
ing the engagement bail.
2.
Flip-over the top gear on the
counter shaft so the beveled
side of the teeth face down.
3.
Flip-over the bottom gear on
the counter shaft so the bev-
eled side of the teeth face up.
Install the input spur gear so that
the small set of teeth are down,
and the wide set of teeth are up
1.
Install the tine shaft so that
the weld bead on the shaft
nests into the concave side of
the spacer. The spacer
should be in the lower half of
the chain case on assembly.
2.
Make sure the tine shaft
bearings are fully seated. In
some cases the shaft may be
driven with a heavy hammer
and a soft drift to seat the
bearings without disassem-
bly. Use hammer prudently.
3.
If the whole tine shaft assem-
bly is installed backward, the
shaft will bind, accompanied
by chain clatter.
4.
Replace rusted chain. If
water has gotten in the case
to rust the chain, there will
usually be other damage.
