NOTE: Starting with the 2010 model year, a reinforcement
Notice the orientation of the spacer and the axle:
See Figure 5.25.
One side of the axle has a weld bead where the
shaft is attached to the sprocket, the other side
is flat.
The convex side of the spacer goes toward the
sprocket, so that the bead fits into the recess in
the spacer.
One washer fits between the spacer and the
lower half of the chain case housing.
The other washer fits on top of the axle shaft
sprocket.
If the axle or spacer are installed reversed, it will
bind (not rotate).
If the whole assembly is reversed, the chain will
be out of alignment.
Inspect the bearing in the housing. If the bearing is
visibly worn on the thrust surface or the bore, it can
be driven out and replaced. See Figure 5.26.

Use an appropriate-size driver to drive or press
the bearing out of the hexagonal hole that it fits
into.
Support the housing properly so it does not dis-
tort
If unusual wear is isolated to one of the two
bearings, replace just the damaged bearing.
In most cases, the bearings will be replaced as
a pair.
