Shift mechanism: Replace shift mechanism components if:
•
Replace the shift arm if the pin that engages the shift fork is worn.
•
Replace the shift arm if the shaft is worn to the point that the pin can come out of the shift fork. Take a
close look at the chain case housing if this is the case.
•
Replace the shift fork if it shows significant wear on any of the working surfaces or does not travel cor-
rectly on the detent shaft.
•
A good case can be made for replacing the snap ring on the shift arm each time it is removed. If it has
loosened-up at all, replace it.
7.
Housing: Replace the chain case housing if:
•
Any of the features that locate shafts or bearings are damaged to the point that they cannot be trusted.
•
The housing is damaged by corrosion, abrasion, or impact in such a way that the housing cannot be
trusted.
