Clutch Cable Adjustment

1.
Position the tiller so that the counterweight on the front is against a solid object that will not move under the
drive force of the tiller.

Do not put your fingers inside the belt cover.
! WARNING

Neutral check:
2a.
Start the engine and advance the throttle to full speed. The transmission should be in Neutral.
2b.
From the right side of the tiller, look inside the belt cover. The belt should not be rotating.

Drive check:
3a.
Move the shift lever to the Forward position.
3b.
Carefully engage the clutch by lifting the
clutch control bail against the handlebar.
3c.
The clutch should engage with enough force
to slip the wheels on the ground without belt
slippage.
3d.
Turn the engine off after the tests have been
made.
4.
Adjustments:
4a.
If the belt rotates with the clutch disengaged,
loosen the jam nut on the ferrule, and rotate
the ferrule to lengthen the cable.
4b.
If the belt does not drive with sufficient force
with the clutch engaged, loosen the jam nut on
the ferrule, and rotate the ferrule to shorten the cable.
4c.
Repeat the Neutral Check and the Drive Check after making any adjustments.
4d.
Once the adjustments are completed and checked, tighten the jam nut against the ferrule to lock the
adjustment.

Confirm that operating the tiller will not create any unsafe conditions before starting the
engine. Unsafe conditions include asphyxiation, fire hazard, collision hazard.
