Safeguarding the battery
To prevent the battery from bec om ing
discharged, the courtesy la mp, reading
lamps, luggage compartment lighting and
glove compartment lighting switch off
automatically 20 m inutes after the ignition
is sw itched off.
Headlamps when driving abroad
The a sym metrical dipped bea m increases
the field of vision on the passenger side of
the la ne.
This causes glare for oncom ing traffic if the
vehic le is driven in countries where traffic
drives on the opposite side of the road.

To avoid glare, switch both dipped beam
headlamp s to sym metrical d ipped beam :
1. O pen bonnet.
2. When changing over to dip to the left,
rem ove the screen w ash bottle filler neck
– see p age 248, Fig. 12788 J.
3. Remove main beam headlamp
protectiv e cov er.
4. Adjust lever shown in illustration:
Left-hand drive vehicles
Left-hand headlamp = Move lever
downwards
Right-hand headlamp = Move lever
upwards
Right-hand drive vehicles
Left-hand headlamp = Move lever
upwards
Right-hand headlamp = Move lever
downwards
5. Check light/dark limits of d ipped beam
(e.g. in front of a wall):
Horizontal = S ymmetrical
Angled upwards = Asymmetrical
6. Pla ce headlamp protective cover in
position and close.
7. After changing over to dip to the left,
reinsert the screen wash bottle filler neck
and click it into pla ce.
