Direct Printing of PDF Files

Some PDF files can be sent directly to the printer without using a print driver. Direct printing
of PDF files is much easier and faster compared to printing them using a print driver. There
are two methods for direct printing of PDF files, each of which is described below.
Printing with PDF Bridge
PDF Bridge is a feature that comes standard with the printer. There are two methods for
printing PDF files using PDF Bridge: Using the ContentsBridge Utility (software by Fuji
Xerox Co., Ltd.) and using commands such as lpr.

• When using the ContentsBridge Utility, refer to the manual included on the Driver CD Kit CD-ROM.
When using commands such as lpr, refer to "Printing PDF Files without Using the ContentsBridge Utility"
(P. 82).
Using PostScript
You can use the PostScript function to directly send PDF files to the printer for printing.
Note
• For information about direct printing of PDF files using the PostScript feature, refer to "[PDF]" (P. 110).
For information about using the control panel to set the [PDF]
PDF Files without Using the ContentsBridge Utility" (P. 82).
Important
• For direct printing of PDF files using the USB or parallel port, use the ContentsBridge Utility.
Note
• If the printer has an optional hard disk installed, direct printing of PDF files also can be performed from
CentreWare Internet Services. For more information, refer to the online help for CentreWare Internet
Services.

Supported PDF Files

PDF files created on Adobe Acrobat 4 to Adobe Acrobat 8 can be printed on the printer.
Note, however, that the following features are not supported.
• When using PDF Bridge: Some features added from PDF 1.5 and later
• When using PostScript: Features added from PDF 1.4 and later
Note
• Depending on how they are created, some PDF files cannot be printed directly. In that case, open the
files and print them using a print driver.

Printing PDF Files Using ContentsBridge Utility

The ContentsBridge Utility is software for sending a file from a computer directly to the
printer for printing.
The ContentsBridge Utility is on the Driver CD Kit CD-ROM. To use ContentsBridge Utility,
refer to the manual on the CD-ROM.
Note
• In addition to PDF files, ContentsBridge Utility also can be used to print TIFF and XPS files.
• XPS stands for XML Paper Specification.
