4 Configuring Network Time
Network Time Protocol (NTP) is used to synchronize the time of a computer client or server to another
server or reference time source, such as a radio or satellite receiver. It provides client time accuracies
within a millisecond on LANs, and up to a few tens of milliseconds on WANs relative to a primary server
synchronized to Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) (via a Global Positioning Service receiver, for exam-
ple).

In This Chapter

This chapter describes the basic components of the OmniSwitch implementation of Network Time Proto-
col and how to configure it through Command Line Interface (CLI). CLI commands are used in the
configuration examples; for more details about the syntax of commands, see the OmniSwitch CLI Refer-
ence Guide.
