Interface Troubleshooting Procedure
Description:
The Interface Troubleshooting Procedure is used during troubleshooting to isolate a failed interface
component, the mainframe interface card, the interface cable, or the expansion interface card. The
Expander Test in the performance verification software generates known bit patterns across the data and
address lines of the interface and generates a walking 0 pattern on the strobe lines. Isolation is done by
using a state analyzer to check these bit patterns at specific locations on the interface cards.
Equipment Required:
State Analyzer ...............................................................................................................................HP 1651B
20-pin DIP clip (qty 3)
Performance Verification Test Disk
Troubleshooting Considerations:
For the mainframe to recognize the mainframe interface card, use an operating system disk, version
V04.00 or greater.
Verify that the mainframe interface card and expansion interface card are firmly seated and that the
interface cable is firmly connected. To check the correct installation of the interface cable, refer to
section 2-20, "HP 16501A Expansion Frame Installation."
Procedure:
1. In the HP 1651B System Configuration menu, assign the analyzer to Type: State. Then, assign Pod
1 and Pod 2 to Machine 1.
