The Oil Level
NOTE: Be sureto checkthe oil whileon a levelsurfacewith the
enginestopped.
1.
Removethe oil fillercap/dipstickand wipethe dipstickclean.
2.
Insertthe dipstickintothe oil fillerneck.Turnthe dipstick1/4turn
intothe lockedpositionto fully seat.See Fig. 13.
3.
Removedipstick to checktheoil level.
4.
If the levelis low, slowlyadd oil untilthe readingisat the upper
levelon the dipstick.See Fig. 13 inset.
5.
Reinsertthe dipstickand turnto lockedpositionbeforestarting
theengine.

Fuel Requirements
Operatingthe enginewith E85fuel, an oil/gasolinemixture,dirty
gasoline,or gasoline over 30 days old withoutfuel stabilizingaddi-
tive may resultin damageto yourengine'scarburetor.Subsequent
damagewouldnot be coveredunder the Craftsmanwarranty.
Useautomotive gasoline(unleadedor lowleadedto minimizecombus-
tion chamberdeposits)with a minimumof 87 octane.Gasolinewith
up to 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButyl Ether)can be
used. Neverusean oil/gasolinemixtureor dirty gasoline.Avoidgetting
dirt, dust,or waterin the fuel tank.DO NOTuse E85 gasoline.
Gasolineis extremelyflammableand is explosiveunder certain
conditions.

Refuelin a well-ventilated area with the enginestopped.Do not
smokeor allowflamesor sparksin the areawherethe engineis
refueledor wheregasolineis stored.

Donot overfillthe fueltank.After refueling,makesurethe tank
cap is closed properlyand securely.

Be carefulnotto spillfuel whenrefueling.Spilledfuel or fuel vapor
may ignite. If any fuelis spilled,makesurethe area is dry before
startingthe engine.

Avoidrepeatedor prolongedcontact with skinor breathingof
vapor.
ADDING
FUEL
An adultshouldfuelthis engine.NEVERallowchildrento refuel
its engine.Gasoline(fuel)vaporsare highlyflammableand can
explode.Fuelvaporscan spreadand be ignitedbya spark or flame
manyfeet awayfrom engine.Topreventinjuryor deathfrom fuel
fires,followthese instructions:

DONOT useleadedfuel.
*
Fuelmustbe fresh and clean.NEVERusefuel left overfrom last
seasonor storedfor long periods.

NEVERmix oil with fuel.
*
DONOT usefuelcontainingMethanol(WoodAlcohol)
NOTE: Beforerefueling, a llowengine tocool two minutes.
1.
Cleanaroundfuel fill beforeremoving cap to fuel.
2.
Filltank untilfuel reaches1/2inch belowthe bottomof the filler
neck to allowspace forfuel expansion.Be careful notto overfill.
3.
Replacethe gasolinecapand tightensecurely. W ipe up spilled
fuel beforestartingengine.If fuel is spilledDO NOTstartengine.
Movemachineawayfrom area of spillage.Avoidcreatingany
sourceof ignitionuntil fuelvaporsare gone.
TIRE PRESSURE
Equaltire pressureshouldbe maintainedat all times. Neverexceed
the maximuminflationpressureshownon the sidewallof thetire.
The recommended operatingtire pressureis:
Approximately 10 psi forthe reartires
Approximately 14 psifor the front tires
IMPORTANT: Referto the tire sidewallfor exacttire manufacturer's
recommended or maximumpsi. Donot overinflate.Uneven tire pres-
surecould causethe cuttingdeckto mowunevenly.
