Throttle / Choke Control
Thethrottlecontrolleveris locatedon the left fenderof the tractoras
seenfrom the operator'sposition,seeFig. 14.This levercontrolsthe
speedof the engine,as wellas the chokewhenit is pushedall the
wayforward.When set ina givenposition,the throttlewill maintaina
uniformenginespeed.
iMPORTANT: Whenoperatingthetractorwith the cuttingdeck
engaged,be certainthat the throttleleverisalwaysin the FAST
(rabbit)position.
Movingthethrottleleverall theway forwardactivatestheengine's
chokecontrol. Activatingthe chokecontrolclosesthechoke plateon
thecarburetorand aids in startingthe engine.

ignition Switch
The ignition switchislocatedon the left fenderof thetractoras seen
fromthe operator'sposition,adjacentto the Throttle/Choke Control.
Activatethe ignitionSwitchto startthe engineby insertingthe key into
the ignition switchand turnclockwiseto the STARTposition.Release
the key intothe ONpositiononce enginehasfired. See Fig. 15.

Clutch=Brake Pedal
Theclutch-brake pedalis locatedon the left sideof the lawntractor,
alongthe running board.Depress the clutch-brake pedalpartway
downwhenslowingthetractorbychangingspeeds(Refer to Speed
Control Lever). Depressthepedalall theway downto engagethe
disc brakeand bringthe tractortoa completestop.
NOTE: The clutch-brake pedal mustbe completelydepressedto start
theengine.Referto SafetyInterlockSwitchesin the Operationsection
of this manual.
Shift Lever
The shiftleveris locatedon the control paneljust belowthe seat,in the
centerof the tractor.It has threepositions,FORWARD, N EUTRAL and
REVERSE. T he brakepedal mustbe depressedand the tractormust
not be in motion whenmovingthe shiftlever.See Fig. 16.
iMPORTANT: Neverforcethe shift lever.Doingsomay result in
seriousdamageto the tractor'stransmission.

Speed Control Lever
The speedcontrollever,locatedon the rightside of thetractor's
steeringconsole,allowsyou to regulatetheground speedof the lawn
tractor.
To use,depressthe clutch-brake pedal and movethe leveroutof
the parkingbrakenotch and forwardto increasethe tractor'sground
speed.Whena desiredspeedhasbeen reached,releasethe leverinto
an appropriatenotchto maintainthat speed.
To slowthe tractor'sground speed,depressthe clutch-brakepedaland
move thespeedcontrol leverrearwardand releaseit intoa notch.
Parking Brake
To set the parkingbrake,fully depresstheclutch-brakepedal.Move
the speedcontrolleverall the way downand intothe parkingbrake
position.Releasethe clutch-brake pedal to allowthe parkingbraketo
engage.
To releasethe parkingbrake,depressthe clutch-brake pedal and
move thespeedcontrol leverout of the parkingbrakepositionintothe
desiredposition.Releasethe clutch-brakepedal.
NOTE: The parkingbrakemustbe set if theoperatorleavesthe seat
with the engine runningor theenginewill automaticallyshut off.
Fuel Lever Indicator
The FuelLeverIndicatoris locatedbelowthe seat on the left hand side
from the operator'spositionin the controlpanel.Use this windowto
identifythe tractor'sfuel needs.See Fig. 17.
