Toproperlysharpenthe cuttingblades,removeequal amounts
of metalfrom bothends of the bladesalong thecuttingedges,
parallelto the trailingedge,at a 250.to 300angle.Alwaysgrind
eachcuttingbladeedge equallyto maintainproperbladebalance.

If thecuttingedge of the blade haspreviouslybeensharpened,or if
anymetal separationis present,replacethe bladeswith newones.
A poorlybalancedbladewill causeexcessivevibration,may cause
damageto the tractorand/orresult in personalinjury.
5.
Testthe blade'sbalanceusing a blade balancer.Grind metal
from the heavy sideuntil it balancesevenly.
NOTE: Whenreplacingthe blade,be sureto installthe bladewith the
sideof the blade marked"Bottom" (or with a part numberstampedin
it) facingthe groundwhenthe moweris in theoperatingposition.
Use a torquewrenchto tightenthe blade spindlehex flangenutto
between70 Ibsift and 90 Ibsift.
ADJUSTMENTS
Neverattemptto make anyadjustmentswhilethe engineis running,
exceptwherespecifiedin the operator'smanual.
Leveling
the Deck
NOTE: Checkthe tractor'stire pressurebeforeperforming any deck
levelingadjustments.Referto Tires,in this ServiceAnd Maintenance
sectionfor moreinformationregardingtire pressure.
Front To Rear
It is possibleto adjust thepitch of the cuttingdeck.The frontof the
deck shouldbe between0" (level)and K" lowerthanthe rear of the
deck. Adjustif necessaryasfollows:
1.
With the tractorparkedon a firm, levelsurface,placethe leverfor
lifting the cuttingdeck intothe middleposition(3) and rotatethe
blade so that it is alignedwith the front and rearof the tractor.
2.
Measurethedistancefromthe front of the bladetip to the ground
and the rearof the bladetip to theground.Thefirst measurement
taken shouldbe between0" (level)and K" lessthan the second
measurement.Determine the approximatedistancenecessaryfor
properadjustmentand proceed,if necessary,to the next step.
3.
Locatethe flangelock nut on the front end of the PTOLift Rod.
See Fig.39.
Tightenthe flangelock nut to raisethe frontof the deck;
Loosentheflangelock nutto lowerthe frontof thedeck.

Adjustment
If the tractorturnstighter in one directionthanthe other,or ifthe front
tie rod is being replaceddue to damageor wear,the steeringneedsto
be adjusted.
To Adjust the toe in/out
of the front
wheels:
1.
Removethe bow-tieclip securingthe tie-rodferruleto the right
front axle assembly,and drop thetie-roddownto adjust.See Fig.
40.
