RECHARGING THE BATTERY

Carefully read page 126 (BATTERY).
WARNING
This battery is completely sealed. Do
not attempt to remove the caps.
There is never any need to add water to
this battery. Attempting to remove the
caps will destroy the battery and could
lead to injury through the spillage of
caustic electrolyte. Recharge the
battery according to the table below.

Remove the battery, see page 127
(REMOVING THE BATTERY).
WARNING
The battery gives off noxious and
explosive gases; keep it away from
flames, sparks, cigarettes and any other
source of heat.
During recharging or use, make sure
that the room is properly ventilated and
avoid inhaling the gases released
during the recharging.

Connect the battery charger to the
battery.
u
Set the charger for the desired type of
recharge (see table).
u
Charge the battery using a battery
charger with a current capacity of no
greater than 1/10th the capacity of the
battery, see page 140 (TECHNICAL
DATA).

Charge at voltage, amperage and time
stated below.

Switch on the battery charger.

Wait for 5 or 10 minutes after you have
finished charging the battery before
reinstalling it, the battery continues to
produce gas for a short period of time
after the charger is removed.

INSTALLING THE BATTERY

u
Ensure the ignition switch is in the "
position.
u
Remove the rider saddle, see page 111
(REMOVING THE RIDER SADDLE).
NOTE
Place the battery (1) with the
terminals pointing to the rear of the vehicle.
u
Refit the battery (1) into its mount.
u
Refit the battery retaining bracket (2).
u
Fit and tighten the screws (3).
WARNING
On refitting, connect the positive cable
(+) first and then the negative cable (-).
