Follow this procedure to
delete a file or folder. If you
delete a folder, all of its
content files are deleted.
Did you know ...
When you delete a file from
the hard drive, it's placed in
the Recycle Bin. It is not
removed from the computer
until you empty the Recycle
Bin.
Tip
On occasion, you should go
into your Windows Temp
directory and delete the .tmp
files to free up some space on
your hard drive. These files
are generated automatically
and you do not need them.
If you accidentally delete a
file, you can restore the file
by retrieving it from the
Recycle Bin.

Deleting Files and Folders

1. From the Windows taskbar, click the Start button. The Start
menu is displayed.
2. Point to Programs and then click Windows Explorer.
3. Click the file or folder you want to delete.

Caution: Do not delete files that are part of a program. Doing so
may render the program unusable. If you are unsure about a file's
function, do not delete it.
4. Press the Delete key. The Confirm File Delete dialog box is
displayed.

Caution: Files deleted from a diskette or from a network drive are
permanently erased. They are not sent to the Recycle Bin and
cannot be restored.
5. Click the Yes button if you want to delete the file or folder. If
you do not want to delete the file or folder, click the No
button.

Restoring Deleted Files

1. On the Windows desktop, double-click the Recycle Bin
icon. The Recycle Bin window displays a list of all deleted
files, their previous locations, and the dates they were
deleted.
2. Click the file you want to restore.
3. From the File menu, click Restore. The file is removed from
the Recycle Bin and restored to its original location.
