This procedure explains
how to search for files or
folders by entering a
complete or partial name.
You can also search for
files based on other search
criteria, such as the date the
file was created or
modified, the file type, the
file size, or some text
within the file.
Using this procedure, you
can place a copy of a file in
a new location.
Tip
You can also access the Copy
and Paste options by
right-clicking a file or folder.

Searching For Files or Folders

1. From the Windows taskbar,
click the Start button. The
Start menu is displayed.
2. Point to Find and then click
Files or Folders. The Find:
All Files dialog box is
displayed.
3. On the Name & Location tab, type the name of the file or
folder (or as much as you can remember) in the Named box.
4. In the Look in box, click the down arrow and select the drive
you want to search.
Note: If you leave the default setting (C:), Windows searches the entire
hard drive (or drive C partition).
5. Select the Include subfolders check box (if it is not already
selected).
6. Click the Find Now button. The files that meet the search
criteria and their locations are displayed in the dialog box
window.

Copying Files

1. From the Windows taskbar, click the Start button. The Start
menu is displayed.
2. Point to Programs and then click Windows Explorer.
3. Locate and click the file you want to copy.
4. From the Edit menu, click Copy.
5. Open the folder into which you want to copy the file.
6. From the Edit menu, click Paste. The file is copied into the
specified folder.
