CONNECTION PROBLEMS —
Dial Environments in Originate mode
Use the &T7 command to perform a remote digital
loopback test with pattern test.
Perform a local analog loopback with a Pattern test.
If your modem is operating in Direct mode (\N1), make
sure that the modem port flow control is disabled (\G0).
Your telephone may have Call Waiting enabled. Refer to
your local phone book for procedures to disable this
feature.
If the modem passes the above tests and a problem still
exists, then the problem is likely not with your modem.
Incoming rings can cause data errors during a loopback
test. Abort the test, disconnect the modular telephone
cord, and restart the test.
Make sure the telephone cord is connected to the
telephone line connector.
Attach a telephone directly to the wall outlet to verify that
a dial tone exists.
Disable the Dial Tone Detect configuration option (X0,
X1, and X3) and dial the telephone number. This will
force the modem to dial without detecting a dial tone on
the telephone line. This type of dialing is known as Blind
Dialing.
