Brake Assistant System (BAS)
The Brake Assistant System provides
additional pressure when the brake
pedal is momentarily and strongly
depressed in a situation sudden braking
is required while driving.
The Brake Assistant System reduces the
time for ABS(Anti-Lock Brake System)
control to enter and consequently
reduces the braking distance, by provid -
ing additional pressure up to the point of
ABS intervention.
WARNING
The system may not operate depending
on driver's driving habit, vehicle speed,
the degree to which the brake pedal is
depressed and the road surface condi -
tion.
Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) sys -
tem
The Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) is oper -
ated as a vehicle stability control system.
The TSA is designed to stabilize the vehi -
cle and trailer when the trailer sways or
oscillates. There are various factors that
make the vehicle sway or oscillate.
僅 High speed
僅 Strong crosswinds or buffeting
僅 Improper overloading
僅 Sudden controlling of steering wheel
僅 Uneven road
The TSA continuously analyzes the vehi -
cle and trailer instability. When the TSA
detects sway, the brakes are applied
automatically to stabilize the vehicle.
When the vehicle restabilizese, the TSA
will no longer operate.
Good braking practices
Good braking practices help to drive
safely and extend brake life.
僅 Check to be sure the parking brake is
not engaged, and the parking brake
indicator light is off before driving.
僅 Driving through water may get the
brakes wet. They can also get wet
when the vehicle is washed. Wet
brakes can be dangerous! Your vehi -
cle will not stop as quickly if the
brakes are wet. Wet brakes may
cause the vehicle to pull to one side.
To dry the brakes, apply brakes lightly
until the braking action returns to nor -
mal, taking care to always keep the
vehicle under control. If braking action
does not return to normal, stop as
soon as it is safe to do so and call an
authorized Kia dealer for assistance.
僅 Don't coast down hills with the vehicle
out of gear. This is extremely hazard -
ous. Always keep the vehicle in gear,
use the brakes to slow down, then
shift to a lower gear so that vehicle
braking will help you maintain a safe
speed.
僅 Don't "ride" the brake pedal. Resting
your foot on the brake pedal while
driving can be dangerous because the
brakes might overheat and lose their
effectiveness. It also increases the
wear of the brake components.
僅 If a tire goes flat while you are driving,
apply the brakes gently and keep the
vehicle pointed straight ahead while
you slow down. When you are moving
slowly enough for it to be safe to do
so, pull off the road.
僅 Be cautious when parking on a hill.
Firmly engage the parking brake and
place the shifter dial in P (Park). If
your vehicle is facing downhill, turn
