Driving your vehicle
WARNING
僅 Never allow a passenger, child, or ani -
mal to touch the Electronic Parking
Brake.
僅 Do not place any objects around the
EPB. It may unintentionally operate.
NOTICE
僅 You can engage the EPB even though
the EV button is in the OFF position,
but you cannot release it.
僅 For your safety, depress the brake
pedal and release the parking brake
manually with the EPB switch when
you drive downhill or when backing
up the vehicle.
CAUTION
僅 If the parking brake warning light is
still on even though the EPB has been
released, have the system checked by
an authorized Kia dealer.
僅 Do not drive your vehicle with the EPB
applied. It may cause excessive pad
and brake rotor wear.
僅 Whenever exiting the vehicle or park -
ing, make sure the gear is shifted to P
(Park) position, then apply the parking
brake. Block the tires if necessary.
僅 EPB may not released as it could
freeze in cold weather. Do not use
EPB and shift the gear to P (Park),
block the tires, and park the vehicle
on a flat and road. If the EPB is
applied when you shift the gear to P
(Park), release the Auto Hold and EPB,
and park the vehicle with the tires
blocked.

僅 When driving with the EPB applied,
the brake system may overheat,
brake lines may wear, and the EPB
may be damaged.
僅 When the battery charge is in suffi -
cient, EPB may not be applied or
released. Connect to the auxiliary bat -
tery.
EPB may be automatically apply
when:
僅 The EPB is overheated.
僅 Requested by other systems.
僅 If equipped with EPB, the parking
brake is applied automatically when
the gear is shifted to P (Park).
CAUTION
僅 If you notice a continuous noise or
burning smell when the EPB is used
for emergency braking, have your
vehicle checked by an authorized Kia
dealer.
僅 If the gear is shifted to N (Neutral)
while EPB is applied, it is not released
automatically. If you don't release EPB
manually before using an automated
car wash, it may result in damage to
the vehicle or the automated car
wash.
NOTICE
For EPB equipped vehicles with AUTO
HOLD used while driving, if the EV but -
ton has been turned OFF, the EPB will
engage automatically. Therefore, AUTO
HOLD should be turned off before the
EV button is turned off.
