Greasing the Mower Deck and
Belt Idlers
Service Interval: Every 25 hours—Grease the mower deck
and spindles.
Every 25 hours—Grease the mower belt idler arm.
Every 25 hours—Grease the pump belt idler arm.
Every 25 hours—Grease the PTO drive belt idler arm.
Grease with No. 2 general-purpose, lithium-based or
molybdenum-based grease.
Important: Make sure cutting unit spindles are full of
grease weekly.
1. Disengage the PTO, move the motion control levers to
the neutral locked position, and set the parking brake.
2. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all moving
parts to stop before leaving the operating position.
3. Loosen the bottom bolt holding the mower-deck
curtain to the mower deck. Refer to
Mower-Deck Curtain (page
4. Remove the sheet-metal guard. Refer to
Sheet-Metal Guard (page 34)
5. Remove the belt covers.
6. Grease the three spindle bearings until grease comes
out the lower seals
7. Grease the idler arm on the mower deck
8. Grease the fittings on the push arms
9. Grease the PTO drive belt idler arm
10. Grease the pump belt idler arm

2. Remove the caster wheel from the caster forks.

3. Remove the seal guards from the wheel hub.
4. Remove 1 of the spacer nuts from the axle assembly in
the caster wheel. Note that thread locking adhesive
has been applied to lock the spacer nuts to the axle.
Remove the axle (with the other spacer nut still
assembled to it) from the wheel assembly.
