To inspect the drive chain and sprocket
wear:
Loosen the fastener securing the

chain guard section of the molding
to the swinging arm.

Loosen the three fasteners located

at the front of the rear hugger and
remove the rear hugger.

Stretch the chain taut by hanging a

20 - 40 lb (10 - 20 kg) weight on the
chain.

Measure the length of 20 links on
▼
the straight part of the chain from
pin center of the 1st pin to the pin
center of the 21st pin. Since the
chain may wear unevenly, take
measurements in several places.
If the length exceeds the maximum
▼
service limit of 12.56 in (12.56 in
(319 mm)),
replaced.
Rotate the rear wheel and inspect
▼
the drive chain for damaged rollers,
and loose pins and links.
Also
inspect
▼
unevenly or excessively worn or
damaged teeth.
