EMISSION CONTROL
The emission control system employed with this diesel
engine consists of a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC). This
device oxidizes large amounts of harmful nitrogen oxides
(NOx) and particulate matter (PM) which are emitted by
diesel engines. These exhaust emissions pose serious
environmental and health risks. No maintenance or service
is required for the DOC device used on this generator.
Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC)
The DOC (Figure 81) does not filter particles; it oxidizes
them. This catalyst (honeycomb-like structure) uses a
chemical process to break down pollutants in the exhaust
stream into less harmful components. In general this
catalyst collects/burns accumulated particulates. The DOC
contains palladium and platinum which serve as catalysts
to oxidize hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS
Most challenging to a rental organization is the fact that a
customer's power assumptions may not meet the minimum
load requirements of the power equipment selected. When
in doubt, it is always recommended to apply a load bank
application to the equipment following a longer rental
period.
Equipment on extended, long-term contracts needs periodic
on-site inspection. If possible, interview the operator and
survey the equipment hooked up to the generator to
estimate load conditions.
Preventive maintenance and a few extra steps prevent
downtime and protect your investment and business. A
well-planned preventive maintenance program will reward
you with years of service.
