5.13.4 Approved coolants

Coolant function
Diesel engine coolant fulfills three functions:
– Heat transfer from the diesel engine and its components to the radiators, without fluid cavi‐
tation
– Corrosion protection and deposit prevention in the cooling system
– Antifreeze protection in the cooling system
Information
Corrosion inhibitors present no cavitation protection. Use of water and corrosion inhibitor only
in the cooling system is not recommended.
Coolant specification
Kohler KD diesel engines are designed to operate with either SI, SI-OAT or hybrid technology
with ethylene glycol basis products as coolant.
The user can choose a ready-to-use preparation or prepare their own blend of water with anti‐
freeze and corrosion-protection agents. Kohler recommends the use of ready-to-use mixture as
it reduces the risk of error in concentration and pollution of the system.
