Installing fabric modules

The device has six vertically-oriented fabric module slots at the chassis rear.
The device came with three fabric module slots each installed with a filler panel and the other fabric
module slots empty. Purchase fabric modules and filler panels as required. If you are not to install a
fabric module in a fabric module slot, install a filler panel in the slot.
To prevent card damage and ensure correct operation, fabric modules can only be used with service
modules of the same type. Type P fabric modules have a character string of SFP in their card
identifier (for example, LSXM1SFP16F1). Type P service modules have a character of P in their card
identifier (for example, LSXM1CGQ36PB1).
Figure 3-10 shows the fabric module slot locations on the S12516G-EF and Figure 3-11 shows the
fabric module slot locations on the S12508G-EF. As a best practice, install a fabric module in an
available slot with the smallest number.
