FLYWHEEL
FLYWHEEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
FLYWHEEL
• Take care not to damage the fan blades during removal and installation of the flywheel.
• Inserting a rod or screwdriver in the fan blades can damage the blades or the aluminum casting projections.
• Clean the tapered areas of the flywheel and crankshaft with a degreasing agent thoroughly before
installation.
• Be sure there are no metal parts or other foreign material on the magnet part of the flywheel.
Remove the following:
– Fan cover (page 5-3)
– Ignition coil (page 15-3)

REMOVAL:
Position a commercially available puller [1] to align
the puller jaws [2] with the PULLER marks [3] on the
flywheel as shown.
When installing the puller, cover the flywheel at the
jaws setting areas with shop towels or equivalent
cloths [4].

WOODRUFF KEY
INSTALLATION:
When installing the flywheel,
be sure to install the woodruff
key in the keyway.

NUT (14 mm)
55 N·m (5.6 kgf·m, 41 lbf·ft)
REMOVAL:
Pull the flywheel brake lever [1] and secure the lever with
a strap [2] or equivalent material as shown.
Hold the flywheel with a commercially available strap
wrench [3].
