d. Measure the oil pressure.
TIP:
• Use a pressure gauge with an adapter that
has a 1/8 pitch thread.
• The actual oil pressure may vary depending
on the temperature and engine oil viscosity.

Checking the pulser coil air gap

Do not turn the flywheel magneto counter-
clockwise. Otherwise, the water pump im-
peller could be damaged.
1. Check:
• Pulser coil air gap
Out of specification  Adjust the air gap.

0.35–1.35 mm (0.014–0.053 in)

a. Turn the flywheel magneto clockwise to
align the protrusion "a" on the pulser coil
with the protrusion "b" on the pulser coil.
b. Measure the pulser coil air gap "c".

Adjusting the pulser coil air gap

1. Loosen:
• Pulser coil bolt "1"
2. Adjust:
• Pulser coil air gap "a"
Pulser coil
Air gap
0.35–1.35 mm (0.014–0.053 in)
3. Tighten:
• Pulser coil bolt
4. Recheck:
• Pulser coil air gap

Checking the valve clearance

• Measure the valve clearances when the en-
gine is cold.
• Cover the fuel components using a rag to
prevent fuel from spilling out.
Do not turn the flywheel magneto counter-
clockwise. Otherwise, the water pump im-
peller could be damaged.
