9.1 Basic procedure for sending a

fax

If the MFAXN light is OFF, turn it ON by pressing
MFAXN.

Set the original (page 35).

If necessary, change the resolution and contrast
according to the type of document.
R To select the contrast, see page 57.

Dial the fax number.

When using the scanner glass, press MxN.
R The unit will scan 1 page. Wait until
"SCAN:PRESS SET" "SEND:PRESS START" is
displayed. Place the next document on the
scanner glass and press MSETN. Repeat this until
all the documents are scanned, then press MxN.
When using the automatic document feeder,
press MxN.
R If you are using the handset (page 104) and the
other party answers your call, lift the handset and
ask them to press their start button. When the fax
tone is heard, press MxN. After pressing MxN, you
can replace the handset.
Note:
R By using the scanner glass, you can send pages from
booklets and small size pages.
R To stop sending, see page 101.
R You can change the default operation mode (feature
#463 on page 77) and the timer before returning to
the default operation mode (feature #464 on
page 77).
9.1.1 Various settings for sending faxes
To select the contrast
Adjust this setting depending on the darkness or
lightness of the document. 5 levels (low to high) are
available.
1. Press MQUALITYN repeatedly to display
"CONTRAST".
2. Press MCN or MDN to change the contrast.
3. MSETN
Note:
R You can save the previous contrast setting (feature
#462 on page 77).
To select the resolution
1. Press MQUALITYN repeatedly to display
"RESOLUTION".
2. Press MCN or MDN to change the resolution.
– "STANDARD": For normal-sized characters.
– "FINE": For small-sized characters.
– "SUPER FINE": For very small-sized characters.
– "PHOTO": For photographs, shaded drawings,
etc.
3. MSETN
R Using the "FINE", "SUPER FINE" and "PHOTO"
settings will increase transmission time.
R You can change the default fax resolution (feature
#405 on page 78).
To send 2-sided originals
1. Set the original in the automatic document feeder
(page 35).
2. MDUPLEXN
3. Press MCN or MDN repeatedly to select the desired
binding of the original.

9.1.2 Selecting the destination from stored
items
Store the desired names and telephone numbers into the
address book beforehand (page 55).
Using address book
Press MWN, then press MCN or MDN repeatedly to display
the desired item.
Note:
R If the LDAP setting is activated beforehand
(page 95), select "LDAP SEARCH" or
"ADDRESSBOOK" by pressing MCN or MDN. A MSETN
For LDAP search, enter the name using the dial
keypad (up to 11 characters), then press MSETN to
start searching.
Using the one-touch dial feature
Using station 1-3:
Press the desired station key.
Using station 4-6:
Press MLOWERN, then press the desired station key.

To redial the last number
MREDIALN

R To stop sending, see page 101.
Reserving the fax transmission (Dual Access)
You can reserve a fax transmission even when the unit
is receiving a fax or sending a fax from memory.
– Up to 10 reservations when sending
– Up to 11 reservations when receiving
1. Set the original during fax reception or fax memory
transmission.
2. Enter the fax number using the dial keypad or
address book.
