Using a modem
If you have a modem, you may have an internal modem or a PC
Card modem. This section provides information on the internal
modem.
A modem allows you to:
Access a bulletin board service (BBS) or the Internet.
❖
Communicate with your office's local area network (LAN),
❖
or a larger corporate wide area network (WAN).
For specific information about connecting to a LAN or WAN,
consult your network administrator.
❖
Use the teleconferencing feature with a video camera.
Send a fax directly from your computer.
❖
TECHNICAL NOTE: Windows 98 does not support fax
capability.
Connecting to a telephone line with an internal modem
Before you can communicate using the modem, you need to
connect it to a telephone line. Your computer's built-in modem
provides a RJ-11 and connector, allowing you to connect to a
standard voice-grade telephone line.
To connect to a standard telephone line:
1
Plug one end of the telephone cable into the RJ-11 modem
jack on the right side of the computer.
