A Cutting Method Taking Error in Accuracy into Account
MODELA Player ver. 3 has a feature that can help reduce these effects on finished results. The following method avoids damage to
finished surfaces.
This actively uses the bottom surface of the tool (the bottom tool) by cutting deeply. It also uses [Four-surface cutting offset] to make the
tool move away toward the outer side to keep the side of the tool (the outer peripheral tool) from touching surfaces that have already been
finished. You can adjust [Four-surface cutting offset] to match the size of the error in accuracy.
Important Notes About Finished Dimensions
• This cuts only the third and fourth surfaces by 0.05 mm deeper than their original settings. Note that the third and
fourth surfaces are finished to a dimension that is a total of 0.1 mm smaller than their original combined dimen-
sions.
• Increasing the [Four-surface cutting offset] value produces a correspondingly greater effect on the finished dimen-
sions.
About [Four-surface cutting offset]
• [Four-surface cutting offset] is a feature that makes the tool move away toward the outer side when cutting the third
or fourth surface. Increasing the value of the setting makes the amount of escape correspondingly larger, making it
progressively less likely that finished surfaces will be damaged.
• The amount of escape of the tool to the outer side makes the finished size of islands and the like correspondingly
larger and the finished size of grooves and the like correspondingly narrower (third and fourth surfaces only).
• Increasing the value of [Four-surface cutting offset] makes it difficult for the tool to enter narrow grooves and the
like, and may increase the number of uncut areas. You may wish to consider using a narrower tool.
