6. Remove the torsion spring from the right side of the frame, as
shown below.

7. With an ink pen or marker, mark the current platen gap adjustment
setting directly on the right parallelism adjustment bushing shown
in Figure 4-56.
8. With a small screwdriver, lift the locking tab on the platen gap
lever support, and then remove the support and pressure washer
from the right end of the carriage guide shaft.

9. Remove the No.7 screw securing the right parallelism adjustment
bushing (shown in Figure 4-56). Lift up the top of the right
parallelism adjustment bushing and rotate it forward to align the
tabs on the bushing with the notches in the frame, as shown
below. Then remove the bushing.

10. Remove the carriage together with the carriage guide shaft.
C A U T I O N
Be sure to replace the oil pad if it falls out of the carriage
when you remove the guide shaft from the carriage.

direction. The convex side should face the right side of
the printer.

Make sure the carriage encoder strip does not touch
either side of the slot in the carriage, as shown below.
