Figure 2-5 shows the paper feeding mechanism block diagram.

The printer loads paper from the ASF, which is then detected by the
paper end sensor attached to the right side of the top frame. The
printer sends the paper's leading edge halfway to the platen; then, to
correct deflection, it feeds the paper back toward ASF and advances it
again toward the platen until it stops at the specified TOF (top of form)
position.
Once the printer starts printing, it feeds paper using the paper feed
roller and sub rollers. The position of the star wheel gear assembly
permits printing on the final 14 mm of the paper (excluding a 3 mm

bottom margin). The gears are shifted by 5× from the top of the eject
roller toward the platen. This causes the trailing edge of the paper to
feed lower, flat against the platen, as shown below.
