Problem

When you turn on the printer, the carriage
leaves home position and strikes the right or
left frame; then the control panel displays a
fatal error.

When you turn on the printer, the carriage
moves a little and the ASF hopper sounds as if
it is moving; then the control panel displays a
fatal error.

Table 3-6. Remedies for Fatal Errors
Check the carriage encoder sensor board visually.
Make sure the carriage encoder sensor board is securely mounted
in the carriage assembly.
Make sure the carriage encoder cable is securely connected to the
carriage encoder sensor board.
Look at the carriage from the side and make sure the encoder strip
still passes through the encoder sensor.

"Removing the Carriage Assembly"
debris.
Make sure the ASF sensor cable is securely attached at both ends.
Turn on the printer and check the voltage at the 3-pin connector
shown in the figure below:
• When the ASF sensor wheel is in the home position, the voltage
is LOW (0.1 V).
• When the ASF home position wheel is out of home position, the
voltage is HIGH (5.0 V).
