G etting S tarted: P reparing for the F irmware Download
1.
Connect the user PC to the CDD-564A/L 10/100 Ethernet port either via a hub or a switch, or
with a direct Ethernet cable connection. See Figure 5-1.

Connect the CDD-564A/L Console port to a serial port on the user PC using an adapter cable.
Do not use the Factory Test port. See Figure 5-1.

Identify and make a note of the product, its firmware number and version number. These are
necessary for the download process.

Use one of these methods to see the current product M&C version and/or firmware number:
a. Using the 10/100 Ethernet port, via HTTP and the IP Module Web Server Interface:
a. Click the Maint (Maintenance) tab.
b. Select the Unit Info hyperlink.
b. Using the 10/100 Ethernet port, via Telnet and the IP Module Command Line Interface
(CLI):
a. On the main page, type O for Operations and Maintenance.
b. Type I for Unit Information.

Create a temporary folder or subdirectory on the user PC for the firmware archive download. Any
valid, writable drive letter can be used. Use one of these methods:
Use the Windows Desktop to create and rename the temporary folder:
a. Right-Click anywhere on the Windows Desktop to open the popup submenu
b. Select New > Folder to create the temporary folder on the desktop
c. Right-Click on the new folder
d. Select Rename from the popup submenu
e. Rename this folder to temp, or another convenient name
Use Windows Explorer to create and rename the temporary folder:
a. Select File > New > Folder to create a temporary folder in the active folder.
b. Right-click the new folder
c. Rename this folder to temp, or another convenient name
Use Windows Command-line to create the temporary folder:
a. On the Windows taskbar, click Start
b. Click Run...
c. In the Run window, click Browse
d. In the Browse window, click Create New Folder or New Folder
e. Right-click the new folder
f.
Rename this folder to temp, or another convenient name
