SETTING UP THE UNIT

If you press and hold down the MENU/SET button for
more than 2 seconds in STANDBY mode, the system
changes to SETUP mode automatically.
Setting up the input/output functions
• This system does not operate properly when the setting
of the unit and input/output functions do not match.
• This unit is factory preset as follows: LINE1... MD /
LINE2 ... TAPE
You do not need to change these settings if the
cassette deck is connected to LINE2 and the MD
recorder is connected to LINE1.
• A CD recorder etc. can be connected by changing the UD-M31's setup. To do so, set the UD-M31 and MD recorder
(DMD-M31) as described in "Setting the MD recorder (DMD-M31) to the digital through mode" at the right. (Through
circuit) For CD recorder etc. connections, see page 7.
• Signal input and output between the CD receiver (UD-M31) and CD recorder etc. is as described below when the
following settings have been made.
Analog signals
• When the MD recorder (DMD-M31) is in the stop or standby mode, the signals are input and output between the CD
receiver (UD-M31) and CD recorder etc. through the MD recorder (DMD-M31).
• The signals do not pass through MD recorder (DMD-M31) when MD recorder (DMD-M31) is in the pause mode.
Digital signals
• The CD receiver (UD-M31) signals are input to the CD recorder etc. through this unit when the MD recorder (DMD-
M31)'s input mode is set to the digital through mode.
NOTE:
• The sound is interrupted if the MD recorder (DMD-M31)'s recording mode is switched while the through circuit is
being used.
• LINE1 : You may select either MD, CD-R, MD/CD-R or AUX.
(MD/CD-R may be used only when all 3 components (MD recorder, cassette deck and CD recorder etc.) are
connected to the main unit.)
LINE2 : You may select either TAPE, MD, or AUX.
Example: Setting MD/CD-R to LINE 1 and TAPE to LINE2.

Use the +/– button to select "LINE1 FUNC".
Press the MENU/SET button.

Use the +/– button to select "MD/CD-R" mode.
Press the MENU/SET button.

• Set LINE1 to MD/CD-R. The LINE2 settings
appear in the display.
6 Use the +/– button to select "TAPE" mode.
Press the MENU/SET button.

• Set LINE2 to TAPE. The system is in STANDBY
mode.

✽ When "LINE2 FUNC" is selected, you may change the settings for LINE 2 only.

• An analog player equipped with line amplifier, etc., can be connected by changing the UD-M31's setup to "AUX".
When doing this, disconnect the device connected to the LINE IN/OUT connectors and connect the device set to AUX.
• You cannot set the same function to both LINE1 and LINE 2 simultaneously. For example, when MD is preset to
LINE1, MD disappears automatically from the list of available functions for LINE2.
• If you set LINE1 FUNCTION to a function already preset to LINE2, LINE2 returns to the original TAPE function
automatically. LINE1 has priority over LINE2.

Press the power operation switch to turn on the

Press and hold the TIME/INPUT button for 2
seconds or longer in the stop condition to set the

input source selection mode.
Press this button to select the digital through mode.
• "Opt-1:THROUGH" is displayed and "OPT" lights.

LISTENING TO RADIO PROGRAMS

Auto tuner presets
Use this to automatically search for FM broadcasts and store up to 40 stations at preset channels 1 to 40.
NOTE:
• If an FM station cannot be preset automatically due to poor reception, use the "Manual tuning" operation to tune
in the station, then preset it using the manual "Preset memory" operation.

Press the MENU/SET button for at least 2 seconds.
• "AT PRESET", "CANCEL –" and "START +"

appear alternately on the UD-M31's display.
• Press the – button to cancel.
Use the + button to select "START".
• "SEARCH" flashes on the display and searching
begins.

• "COMPLETED" appears once searching is
completed.
• If you want to stop searching, press the – button.
