Carburetor Installation; Air Screw Adjustment - Honda 1988 Z50R Service Manual

CARBURETOR INSTALLATION
Install the carburetor in the frame and tighten the carbretor mount-
ing bolts securely.
Tighten the connecting tube band screw .
Insert Ihe throttle valve into the carburetor, aligning the valve
groove with the throttle stop screw.
Tighten the carburet or top.
NOTE
After installing the carburetor and throttle valve, perform the fol-
lowing adjustment:
- Throttle grip free play (page3- 4).
- Carburetor idle speed (page 3- 8).
- Carburet or air screw adjustment if the carburetor was over-
hauled or cleaned .
AIR SCREW ADJUSTMENT
NOTE
The air screw is factory pre-set. Adjust ment is not necessary un-
less the carburetor is overhauled or cleaned.
1. Turn the air screw clockwise unit
it
seats lightly and then back
it out to st andard setting.
CAUTION
The oj, screw seal wifl be damaged
if
the screw it lightened against
the seat.
INITIAl. OPENING : '88 2 turns out
After ' 88 1 - 1/ 4 turns out
2. Warm the engine up to operating temperature.
3 . Stop the engine, co n nect a tachometer to the engine
according to the tachometer manufacturer's instructions.
Start th e engine.
4 . Adjust the idle speed with the throttle stop screw.
IDlE SPEED: 1,700
±
100 rpm.
5. Turn the air screw in or out until the highest idle speed is ob-
tained .
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5.
7. Readjust the idle speed with the throttle stop screw.
B. Check that the engine speed increases smoothly by turning
the throttle grip; if not smoothly, repeat steps 4 through 7.
