Diesel Engine Diagnosis
ENGINE CRANKS NORMALLY BUT WILL NOT START
(Possible Cause)
(Check Procedure and Correction Method)
Loosen any one injection pipe union nut from
its
nozzle.
Crank the engine for approx. 5 seconds
while
confirming that fuel
is
being discharged from the pipe.
lf
fuel
is
coming out, begin diagnosis
from
item
4.
lf not, begin from item
2.

NOFUEL TO INJECTION
NOZZLE
With ignition switch turned
ON,
check for fuel cut
solenoid operation noise (clicking sound) while
repeatedly connecting and disconnecting fuel cut
solenoid.
lf
no noise, check if there is battery voltage to the
solenoid when the starter switch
is ON.
lf battery voltage is
confirmed, fuel cut solenoid is
faulty and should be replaced. lf no voltage, refer to
ELECTRICAL
DIAGNOSIS and make necessary
repairs.

NO
FUEL CUT SOLENOID
OPERATION
3.
NO
FUEL INTO INJECTION
PUMP
Disconnect inlet hoses to the fuel filter
and feed clean
fuel from separate container directly into pump.
lf engine starts, either the fuel filter or fuel line
between the fuel tank and fuel
filter
is
clogged and
should be repaired.
lf the engine still does not start, check the fuel
filter
or
line between fuel filter and injection pump.
lf
normal,
the injection pump
is
faulty and should
be
repaired.
HINT:
When feeding fuel directly into pump, keep
container at same level
as
vehicle
fueltank.

FUEL LEAKAGE FROM
INJECTION
PIPE
Check
for
loose unions or
cracks.
lf leaking, tighten to specified torque or,
if
necessary,
replace pipe(s).
5.

AND 38]
INOPERATIVE PRE-HEATING
OPERATION
With the starter switch turned
ON
and the glow plug
indicator light illuminated, check that there
is voltage
applied to the glow plug.
lf
not, refer to
ELECTRICAL
DIAGNOSIS and repair as
necessary.
