Disk Drive Identifiers
Disk drives are identified by the letters -A, -B and
-C, etc.
The first fixed disk is always drive -C.
The
internal floppy disk drive on the right side of the
computer is usually drive -A.
If
you have an external
5.25-inch floppy disk drive, MS-DOS identifies it as
either drive -A or -B depending on how you set the
A-B-PRT switch.
After a successful startup, the screen
display
the
MS-DOS system prompt.
The standard MS-DOS prompt
indicates the current disk drive.
For example:
J
is what the MS-DOS prompt looks like when you start
the system from the hard disk.
If
you issue a command without specifying a drive,
MS-DOS assumes that you mean to use the current
drive.
